Background of the Study
Tourism is a significant driver of economic growth, providing revenue, employment, and opportunities for regional development. In Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, tourism has great potential due to its natural and cultural attractions. Effective governmental accounting is essential for managing tourism revenues to ensure they are allocated to infrastructure development, marketing, and community benefits. However, inefficiencies such as misallocation of funds and lack of transparency have hindered the growth of the tourism sector in Barkin Ladi. This study evaluates the role of governmental accounting in managing tourism revenues in Barkin Ladi LGA.
Statement of the Problem
Despite its potential, the tourism sector in Barkin Ladi LGA faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited promotion, and financial mismanagement. These issues are often attributed to weaknesses in governmental accounting practices.
